Vocational Courses & Skills Training (DIT Accredited)

At St. Peter’s SS Bombo Kalule, vocational education is not treated as an “extra”. It is a core pillar of empowerment. We deliberately align our training with Uganda’s real economic landscape, where practical skills are not only employable but immediately profitable.

Detailed Breakdown of Our Vocational Courses

1. Bakery & Pastry Production

This is one of the most practical and fast-return skills in Uganda’s urban and semi-urban settings.

Students are trained in:

  • Bread making (loaves, buns, chapati, mandazi)
  • Cake baking and decoration for events (birthdays, introductions, weddings)
  • Snacks production (doughnuts, samosas, biscuits)

Training emphasizes: Costing & pricing, hygiene & food safety, packaging, and basic marketing.

Outcome: Students can start a home bakery business, supply nearby shops or school canteens, or handle small event orders independently.

2. Welding & Metal Fabrication

Highly relevant in Uganda’s growing construction and informal manufacturing sector.

Students gain skills in:

  • Arc welding techniques
  • Fabrication of doors, windows, gates, and simple structures
  • Metal cutting, measuring, and finishing

Training includes: Safety procedures, reading fabrication designs, and repair & maintenance.

Outcome: Work in garages/workshops or start small fabrication businesses making gates, burglar proofing, and furniture frames.

3. Plumbing

A consistently in-demand trade across both rural and urban Uganda.

Students are trained in:

  • Installation of pipes (PVC, PPR systems)
  • Water flow systems and drainage
  • Repair of leaks, taps, and sanitation facilities

Outcome: Offer repair services in communities, employment in construction projects, or start a small plumbing service business with minimal capital.

4. Building & Construction

Designed to reflect Uganda’s booming real estate and infrastructure development.

Students learn:

  • Bricklaying and block work
  • Concrete mixing and application
  • Wall plastering and floor screeding
  • Basic tiling and finishing

Training approach: Project-based learning, measurement, leveling, and site organization.

Outcome: Immediate employability as construction assistants and a strong foundation to grow into contractors or site supervisors.

5. Fashion & Design / Tailoring

A strong income-generating skill, especially in Uganda’s vibrant clothing and events industry.

Students are trained in:

  • Pattern drafting and cutting
  • Garment construction (school uniforms, gomesi, casual wear)
  • Machine operation (electric sewing machines) and basic fashion design
  • Fabric selection, costing, and customer handling

Outcome: Start a tailoring business from home, gain employment in tailoring shops, or specialize in school uniforms or event wear.

6. Perfume Making

A unique, modern skill with growing demand in Uganda’s beauty and personal care market.

Students learn:

  • Extraction of fragrances using alembic distillation
  • Blending scents to create perfumes, sprays, and oils
  • Packaging and branding basics

Outcome: Start a low-capital fragrance business and sell products in schools, boutiques, and local markets.

7. Music & Performing Arts (Band)

This programme taps into Uganda’s strong entertainment industry.

Students are trained in:

  • Playing band instruments (drums, keyboard, guitar, brass instruments)
  • Vocal training and stage performance
  • Rhythm, coordination, and ensemble work

Outcome: Development of professional talent for entertainment, church, and event bands. Builds confidence and public presentation skills.

8. Art & Design

A creative pathway with both academic and commercial potential.

Students explore:

  • Drawing, painting, and crafts
  • Basic graphic design concepts and signage
  • Creativity for business (posters, branding materials)

Outcome: Earn income through art commissions, sign painting, and crafts. Strong foundation for careers in design, architecture, or fine arts.

9. Driving Training

A practical life skill with direct employability (for students aged 18 and above).

Students learn:

  • Professional driving lessons (theory + practical)
  • Road safety and traffic regulations
  • Basic vehicle handling and maintenance

Outcome: Qualification for driving jobs, increased independence and mobility, and entry into transport-related businesses. School provides guidance through the permit acquisition process.
